They Think It’s Draining Me… But It’s Actually Charging Me

They Think It’s Draining Me… But It’s Actually Charging Me

To some, the way I work might seem intense. Long hours. Deep focus. Endless problem-solving. Always within two feet of my laptop. They might think I’m burning out. But here’s the truth: This is how I recharge.

The Misunderstanding of Passion at Work

We often associate energy with rest, and exhaustion with effort. But for some of us — especially in tech, software, or AI — the relationship is more nuanced. When I’m writing code, debugging something complex, or iterating through a tough architecture problem… I don’t feel drained.

I feel alive.

Just last week, I completely lost track of time working on my Prompt Engineering Handbook. Not because I had to. But because I wanted to. The process of distilling what I’ve learned and sharing it with others was its own reward. The hours flew by. And I came out of it more energized than when I started.

It’s Not Burnout. It’s Alignment.

We talk a lot about burnout in our industry — and rightly so. But not all intense work is harmful. Sometimes, it’s the opposite. When your work aligns with your curiosity, your creativity, your core motivation — it stops feeling like a drain and starts feeling like fuel.

That’s what people miss when they look from the outside.

What Are You Really Looking For?

We’re taught to chase the “perfect” job:

  • The perfect salary
  • The perfect location
  • The perfect boss
  • The perfect title

But maybe the real prize isn’t perfection. Maybe it’s something simpler:

Work that energizes you. Work that pulls you in instead of wearing you down.

Find What Fuels You

If you haven’t found that kind of work yet — don’t give up. Keep exploring. Keep building. Keep asking yourself what feels natural, what brings you energy instead of stealing it. It might take time. It might not look like anyone else’s path. But once you find it, everything changes:

  • Your output
  • Your mindset
  • Your presence
  • Your joy

And when that happens, people notice. You become the inspiration for someone else still searching.

So no — this isn’t me burning out. This is me plugged in, lit up, and fully alive in my work.

Find what fuels you. You deserve that.

Bonus: I just released my Prompt Engineering Handbook (https://youtheinterface.com and digital book is instantly downloadable by using coupon JUNE2025 for 100% discount) — a distilled guide to practical, creative prompt design for modern AI systems. It’s a project born out of passion, curiosity, and countless hours in deep focus — and I hope it helps someone else find their own flow.

Let’s keep building things that light us up.
